Elizabeth Blackadder
(born 1931)

One of the finest Scottish artists of her generation, Blackadder was born in Falkirk, Scotland and studied at Edinburgh University and the Edinburgh College of Art. A Carnegie Traveling Scholarship and a further postgraduate scholarship allowed her to travel and study in Europe. In 1956 she married the Scottish painter John Houston. She Was elected to the Royal Scottish Academy in 1972 and to the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 1976. She is perhaps best know for her meticulous watercolors in which objects are carefully spaced on her studio table. Her work is in public and private collections throughout Britain and elsewhere.
