North Entrance of the Temple of Luxor

| The temple, built by Amenophis III (1390-1352 BCE) and enlarged by Rameses II (1279-1213 BCE), was dedicated to Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. Rameses placed two colossal seated statues of himself, wearing the double crowns of Upper and Lower Egypt, at the entrance. These are the figures that Bridgman has drawn, still at the time largely buried by sand. They were only fully excavated in the 1960s. |
