Thomas Grist (d.1808) was a provincial actor who toured widely and was apparently a friend (and most likely a customer) of  Lawrence's  father, who kept the Black Bear Inn, in Devizes, on the route between Bath and London. Grist's daughter Harriet (d.1833) was also an actor.
